Dear Parents / Guardians,

Welcome back, I would like to welcome Louie to Pre-School and his family and I am sure he will enjoy his time here.

This term we are looking at 'People Who Help Us' and hope to have some visits from the community Police, a Nurse and the Fire Service. If anybody has any suitable toys at home that would enrich our role play areas then please feel free to bring them in to share. We will continue with a colour and shape per week as well.

Also the children do enjoy ‘Show and Tell' so any item/toy from home that they would like to share with their friends is also welcome.

The ‘Sounds and Letters' activities have been a real hit and we will continue to cover one aspect of these each week, more details below.

The weekly activities will be displayed on our first board as you enter the hall along with the children's Learning Journeys. Please feel free to read these and also add anything to them so we can share the ‘wow' moments. I have some little sheets that are suitable to add comments on and they are on the signing in table, help yourself and I can stick them into their books.

Week 1 23rd – 27th February Brown and Squares

This week we are looking at Doctors and Nurses with the role play being a doctor's surgery. Stories will include Osborne First experiences which covers a trip to the doctor. Our sounds area is Environmental sounds so we will be listening to and trying to name different sounds.

We will also be enjoying Pancakes, writing with pastels and hopefully our caterpillars will arrive so the children can watch them over the next 5 weeks develop and change.

Week 2 2nd - 6th March Grey and Rectangles

This week we will be looking at the Fire service and we will get a visit from the Fire Engine.

We will also look at Saint David's Day and be making Daffodils. We will be enjoying Fireman Sam stories and weather permitting we will have some hose play in the garden.

Our area of ‘Sounds and Letters' will be instrumental sounds, and will include activities encouraging the children to play instruments and describe the sounds.

Week 3 9th -13th March Green and Circles

We are learning about road safety this week, so after a talk we will go out for a walk to see the ways to keep us safe near roads. Hopefully we will be able to borrow some resources from the county council to help bring this subject alive.

Body percussion is our sounds theme this week and we will be looking at making quiet, noisy, fast and slow sounds.

Holi the Hindu festival offspring is celebrated this week, so we shall look at some activities related to this including tie dye for the colours they celebrate.

Week 4 16th – 20th March Black and Triangles

We will be looking at vets and how they help us look after our animals. The role play will be a vet practice so if anyone can any cat boxes we could borrow that would help or any animal food/resources. Thank you.

Rhythm and rhyme will feature this week introducing and building on rhyming words and the rhythm of song and stories.

We also will be making Mothers Day gifts and cards for those very important people who help us!

Week 5 23rd – 27th March White and Stars

This week we will look at how the Police help us, and I am arranging a visit from our Community Policewoman.

We will be dressing up and making hats for our role play.

The ‘Sounds and Letters' area for this week will be alliteration which is great fun and an opportunity for some silly stories to be made up and read.

Week 6 30th March – 3rd April Silver and Gold Oval

This week we will touch on other people who help us including teachers, dentists and friends.

We will go out for a listening walk and discuss what we heard and use our voices to impersonate those sounds.

We also will make Easter cards and have fun Easter art activities.
