Dear Parents,

Welcome back to the start of a new year at Crudwell Pre-School, we are looking forward to a fun packed term with lots of activities to engage the children.

This term our adult led activities will be linked to shapes and colours, but all areas of the children's interests will be taken into account with the planning.

We are having a topic table linked to the colour and shape for the week, please bring in any suitable items to add. We are going on short walks and looking for coloured items on our walks to make into a colours book.

We will also be looking at one letter a week in a simple way to introduce the sounds to the children. This will be through songs and rhymes mainly and it will promote good listening skills.

Show and Tell is a fun and beneficial part of the day, the children can bring in an item from home that they would like to share with their friends at pre - school. They are encouraged to tell us about the item and can answer questions posed by the children. They love this and it is great to watch their confidence grow.

During the term we will look at festivals that include Ramadan, Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur and tasting typical foods linked to these festivals.

Week 1 8th - 12th September Letter 'r'

Red is the colour for our topic table along with circles

We will be making play dough faces, drawing ourselves, wheel printing, and mark making in paint.

Week 2 15th - 19th September Letter ' b'

We are looking at the colour blue and the shape square.

Our activities will include 'building' houses using the soft play shapes in our home corner, exploring musical instruments, and listening games.

Week 3 22nd - 25th September Letter 'g'

Green will feature in this week's activities and triangle.

We will be making textured pictures, and collecting items on our walks to make an Autumnal display. Memory games like Kim's Game will also be available, and planting some beans.

Week 4 29th - 3rd October Letter 'o'

Orange is our colour this week and the shape rectangle.

We will be planting carrot tops and watching them grow. Hopefully our pumpkins will be ready to sample this week also. We will enjoy making table top prints, playing sounds lotto and learning a little about rhythm with our tapping sticks.

Week 5 6th - 10th October Letter ' y'

We will be using yellow in our artwork this week and looking at the shape oval.

This week we will be making binoculars, digging the vegetable patch ready for the next planting session and making weather clocks.

Week 6 13th - 17th October Letter 'p'

Purple and pink and stars will feature this week.

We will continue with our colour book, make coloured shaving foam to play with and see how mixing colours makes different colours. Pictures of the night sky will also be made.

Week 7 20th - 24th October Letter 'w'

Black and white will be used this week and semi circles.

We will do wax resist pictures, chalk shapes and feel textures of white foods.
