Dear Parents,
Welcome back - I hope you all had a lovely half term. This term we will be looking at 'Ourselves' which covers a huge subject area. Areas that we shall be covering will include; the body, our families, our favourite things and comparing all of them to other people's way of life. See below for our weekly activities.
There are two activities that we require your signature for the children to enjoy (and also to arrange transport). The slip is on the last page and the activities are:
A trip to Butts Farm on 18 th June. Pre-School will cover the entrance change for the children.
I have found some story bags which would be beneficial for the children to take home to share with you. They would contain a couple of books and maybe a game or a toy linked to a theme, e.g. colours .
A rough guide to the activities that this term includes;
Week 1
2nd - 6th June Our Bodies Sounds b and r
We will be looking at our faces and features that make us similar and different. We will be making a height chart, drawing ourselves and learning shapes and colours linked to us. Stories will include The Boy on the Beach, The Smartest Giant in Town and Our Feelings.
Week 2 and 3
9th - 20th June Our senses Sounds ck and e then m and d
We will be using feely boxes so the children can describe what they are touching, listening games to match voices and instruments and also tasting different foods. We will look at Shavuot, a Jewish festival celebrating harvest, and making traditional pancakes eaten at the festival. We will explore textures by making tactile pictures and the sense of smell to investigate different items.
Stories will include Grandma's Saturday Soup, The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry and the Big Hungry Bear.
Stories for the second week will include Me and My Body, Five Minutes Peace and Cha, cha cha.
Week 4

We will talk about our favourite stories, songs, toys etc and if children would like to share these items with their friends at preschool they are welcome to bring them in. The children will have opportunities to do printing and enjoy the musical instruments to accompany a selection of songs.
Books to share include My Best Friend Bob, If I could Work and What I like.
Week 5

We will be looking at size and length by measuring using tape measures, paces and hand spans. The children can make life size pictures to decorate. Please bring in a picture of your child as a baby and we can look at how we change and grow.
Books will include nonfiction books about shape and size
Week 6
